MEGGER’s new transformer and substation test system is the most versatile and easiest to use in the market

In response to a growing demand for compact systems for testing in substations capable of performing numerous tests, Megger has launched the incomparable TRAX.

As well as being versatile and easy to use, the TRAX  optimised measuring device can be used to perform more than 20 tests on transformers and other tests commonly performed on substations, such as measurement of windings resistance, demagnetization of transformer cores, transformation ratio measurement, excitation current, short circuit impedance, delta and capacity tangent, frequency response of stray losses (FRSL), tests on current and voltage transformers and timing and analysis of switch movements.

The test system allows a wide range of currents and voltages to be generated and measured with high precision. But one of the greatest advantages is the operating system, which works like the apps on a Smartphone. Each app implements a specific test function and automatically configures the instrument for this test. All unnecessary information is removed from the display so that only information relevant to the current test remains. This app-based approach makes the TRAX test system easy and intuitive to work with, and eliminates the need for extensive user training. Because it is the lightest of its type, it can be checked into an aircraft as hand luggage weighing a mere 32 kg including its case.

The key features of Megger’s new, innovative TRAX test system include state-of-the-art transformer winding resistance measurements with test currents up to 100, a true DC at up to 50 V compliance voltage; dynamic on-load tap changer (OLTC) measurements; exceptional interference suppression to secure accurate readings even in high noise switchyards, a wide operating frequency range of 5 to 500 Hz (1 to 500 Hz for tan delta measurements); individual temperature correction of tan delta measurements using Megger’s patented technology; and automatic voltage dependence detection, which is another unique feature covered by Megger patents.

To ensure maximum operator safety, TRAX incorporates ground-loop detection, dual interlocks and facilities for fast discharge of inductive measurement objects. Provision is also made for connecting an optional strobe warning light.
